The weather conditions at the Ekofisk field at the time of the disaster 18.30hrs on March 27th 1980 was not extreme. Dominating winddirection that day was from 100 degrees, see figure (green color). The D-leg on lee side to the left on figure. Waveheight 5-6meters. The comission report says 6.0meter. Recordings obtained from Meterological Institute after inspection onboard the uprighted rig in Oct. 1983 says 5.0 meters. The gangway from the Edda platform was pulled in at 17.50hrs. One of the controlroom operators on duty was granted permission to go to the movies. Permission would probably not been given under severe conditions. Anchor tensions observed in the control room at the time were 50-60 tons upwind and 20-30tons at the le side.
