Education
Skills
- I have experience with the following UNIX flavors:
- Digital UNIX (formerly known as
DEC OSF/1
)
- Linux
- System V R3
- SCO Unix
- I've been programming C++ for 3 years, and
C for half a year, and know a thing or two about
writing scripts too.
- I have especially good knowledge about
- BSD Sockets programming
- Internet Protocols such as
- TCP/IP
- SMTP
- MIME
- News/USENET/NNTP
- World Wide Web and it's cgi-bin-scripts.
- In addition, I've been programming pretty much in
The X Window System and Motif
(in connection with my main assignment).
- I have knowlegde about databases in general, and especially about
the querylanguage SQL
- I have participated in a
larger
project, wich target was to set
up a small internet, where my group's task was to set up the
Novell part. I also have knowlegde about network management
in general.
Experience
- I have been an active UNIX and Internet user for 3 years
(far more than required for the education), and have a lot of
experience in finding any information I may need through the many
services offered by Internet such as e.g. email, news, gopher,
archie/ftp, irc and World Wide Web.
- Last year (1994) a group called
yfm-drift
where
created on the main UNIX machine at school. The group was
given 300 MBs of disk to
compile and install free programs taken from Internet on. This
has given a certain amount of knowledge about the differences of
the different UNIX flavours.
- I use Linux as operating system at home, and do all my
serious work on UNIX (either Linux at home, or Digital UNIX at school).
Linux is a very popular and good UNIX clone which is free. This has
produced some experience about UNIX and administration.
- I served my compulsory time in the military from September 1995 to
August 1996 at
The Defense Head Quarters, Naval Staff. My job there was to
create and maintain applications that are used when accessing the
Naval Defence's personnel database. The database resides on a mainframe
from IBM, running MVS and DB2. The applications are
written in something called CSP -- Cross System
Product, which is just about everything you want to know about
that. My largest achievement there was to make a collection of
scripts that was able to convert the CSP source code from a format
meant for a printer, to HTML. This meant a major efficiency increase
when maintaining CSP applications.
Previous works
- FLib -- a C++ Class Library for accessing
news
via NNTP.
- Hugin -- a
newsreader
for X/Motif on behalf
of TISIP. Hugin uses the above mentioned class library. This was
my main assignment which I worked on togerther with 3 others.
Current Occupation
I'm currently studying computer science at NTNU (Norvegian University
of Science and Technology), at the part previously known as NTH.
In 2 weeks, I'll become a Master of Science in computer science.
